Multidisciplinary
- Working with several disciplines
- Members from different disciplines work independently on different aspects of a project or the care (parallel or sequentially)
- Individual goals in different professions
- HCP have separate but interrelated roles
- Participant maintains own disciplinary role
- Does not challenge the disciplinary boundaries
- Summation and juxtaposition of disciplines
- Additive, Integrative, Collaborative
- Participants learn about each other
- Separate methodologies
- Medical doctor is in lead and coordinates
Interdisciplinary
- Working between several disciplines
- Members from different disciplines working together on the same project or the care (working jointly)
- Shared goals
- HCP have common roles
- Participant surrenders some aspects of their own disciplinary role (but maintains a discipline specific base)
- Blurs the disciplinary boundaries
- Integration and synthesis of disciplines
- Interactive, Integrative, Collaborative
- Participants learn about and from each other
- Common methodologies
- Medical doctor facilitates as equal member of team
