Rehabilitation of people with disabilities is a process aimed at enabling them to reach and maintain their optimal physical, sensory, intellectual, psychological and social functional levels. Rehabilitation provides disabled people with the tools they need to attain independence and self-determination.
- Rehabilitation is a set of interventions designed to optimize functioning and reduce disability in individuals with health conditions in interaction with their environment.
- Health conditions here refer to acute & chronic disease, disorder, injury or trauma; but also to other circumstances (pregnancy, ageing, stress congenital abnormality or genetic predisposition)
- Rehabilitation caters to the underlying health condition(s) as well as the goals and preferences of the user.
